The Alabama Mountain Games (AMG) began in 2005 as NAWFest (North Alabama Whitewater Festival) with the intentions of growing into a premier white-water kayaking event to display the natural wonders located in North Alabama. The introductory year brought in approximately 300 attendants and competitors. By 2009, attendance had quadrupled to over 2000. AMG has relocated to "Boogie Bottoms" in Locust Fork, Alabama (Directions). The new location is now set in the center of 375 acres of private property, allowing this annual festival to endlessly grow in size and attendance. The spacious land offers a drive-in movie screen, concession stand, built-in stage areas, restrooms and ample camping around the event all back-dropped by a breathtaking view. Alongside Whitewater Kayaking, the new Alabama Mountain Games will be adding canoeing, mountain biking, rock climbing and wakeboarding as the main events and will feature one of the best homegrown music festivals in the Southeast.
