Fresh Water Land Trust

The Freshwater Land Trust’s mission is the acquisition and stewardship of lands that enhance water quality and preserve open space. We acquire, conserve, and connect open spaces that are critical for the protection of rivers and streams and that provide recreational opportunities for the community. We are based in Birmingham, Alabama, and we work in Jefferson, Shelby, Blount, Chilton, Bibb. St. Clair, Tuscaloosa, and Walker Counties. We are a conservation group that works to ensure that everyone wins: landowners, businesses and communities alike.

Tennessee Valley Adventure

The Tennessee Valley Adventure group serves the North Alabama and South Central Tennessee region. They are an eco-volunteer group dedicated to outdoor excursions near and far. They hike, bicycle, paddle, camp, climb, cave, ski, raft, swim, dive, and maybe perhaps try a little skydiving. Most of the events are planned for fun as well as adventure.

Red Mountain Park

Red Mountain Park

Red Mountain Park  is located in the southwest corner of the City of Birmingham.  The park is situated on 1,108 acres, extending approximately 4.5 miles east-to-west along Red Mountain. The park will provide a unique venue for corporate meetings, family and community celebrations and other events.  Throughout its development, Red Mountain Park will incorporate new ideas and opportunities for added facilities and attractions.

The Conservation Alliance

The Conservation Alliance is a group of outdoor industry companies that disburses its collective annual membership dues to grassroots environmental organizations. We direct our funding to community-based campaigns to protect threatened wild habitat, preferably where outdoor enthusiasts recreate. The Alliance was founded in 1989 by industry leaders Patagonia, The North Face, and Kelty, who shared the goal of increasing outdoor industry support for conservation efforts

First Avenue Rocks

First Avenue Rocks Climbing Gym, 2417 1st Avenue South, Birmingham's only first class indoor rock climbing gym and training facility.

Outdoor Recreation

UAOR offers trips that include everything from backpacking, canoeing, rock climbing, snow skiing and other adventure trips! Other service include rental gear, and an indoor climbing wall in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Moondance Adventures

Moondance teen adventure programs range from 13 to 24 days, during which students participate in a combination of adventure and experiential education activities including backpacking, whitewater rafting, rock climbing, alpine mountaineering, fly fishing, surfing, sea kayaking, cultural immersion and community service projects.
 
Alabama Environmental Council

AEC is a statewide, non-profit leader engaging citizens toward sustainable living and stewardship of the environment.  Their mission is to organize and empower Alabamians to preserve the environment in a manner that is mindful of current and future generations.

 


Cahaba River Society

The Cahaba River Society (CRS) is Alabama’s largest watershed conservation organization and is recognized nationally for river stewardship. It's mission is to restore and protect the Cahaba River watershed and its rich diversity of life.

Fresh Air Family

Mission: To teach that every living thing deserves respect. To connect youth with nature. To build families and future leaders. To build pride in Alabama and our natural wealth. UAB Outdoor Pursuits

Outdoor Pursuits is a part of the University of Alabama Birmingham, offering a climbing wall for UAB Students/ Rec Center members. Outdoor Pursuits trips and equipment rental are available to the public. View the action-packed 2009/2010 event calendar here.

NOMAD Backcountry Adventures

Nomad Backcountry Adventures was founded in 2004 to introduce people to the rewards of sharing challenging outdoor adventures, offers participants the opportunity to “feed their wanderlust.” Drawing on years of experience in the outdoor, environmental, and adventure education fields, founders Meg Letson and Rachel Pomerantz combine their expertise and passion for learning through nature to bring you trips unique in creativity, adaptability, and focus on the small details.

The Southern Environmental Center (SEC) is the largest educational facility of its kind in Alabama. In addition to its award-winning Interactive Museum and EcoScape Gardens, the SEC is also active in the community. It has initiated a number of model partnerships targeting water quality, smog, and urban sprawl.

 

 

Southeastern Climbers Coalition

The SCC's mission is to preserve climbing areas for future generations to enjoy. SCC volunteers are climbers from Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, North and South Carolina and the Ozarks who have joined forces to resolve local climbing access issues. The SCC aims to provide an ongoing means for climbers to respond effectively to access threats to crags, as well as the impacts of increasing use.

The Alabama Hiking Trail Society (a non-profit 501(c)3) and its members from Huntsville to Mobile share a common love for hiking and backpacking and are committed to developing, maintaining, protecting, and promoting a statewide hiking trail system. You can help AHTS by becoming a member or volunteering.

Horse Pens 40

Horse Pens 40 is a local treasure with an international reputation for great rock climbing. It's a beautiful area on top of Chandler mountain near Oneonta, Alabama with lots of natural and human history. The Schultz family owns and cares for the land and guests with true Southern hospitality. All events held at Horse Pens 40, including those hosted by the Schultz family, donates a portion of any proceeds to a local charity. Camp or rent a cabin. The country store has anything you need, including fresh & hot lunch or dinner.
